South Korea’s educational system is based on three main factors. The first is that the educational system in Korea is still influenced by Confucianism, which shaped the political educational philosophy of the public and led people to understand South Korea’s culture, which can be determined by the country’s social and cultural context. The second is that the educational system in South Korea puts students’ accomplishments in first place in the subjects of math and science leading to the explanation of why South Koreans’ spectacular scores on the Program for International Student Assessment which is increasingly being used to compare students from all over the world. The third is that the educational system in South Korea puts students under stress in addition to the fact that the parents herd their children to various educational outlets and programs. The average South Korean student works up to 13 hours per day, while the average high school student sleeps only 5.5 hours per night to ensure adequate time for studying . However, not all parents feel comfortable with the educational system in South Korea, and because of that, they decide to move to another country and try to give their children a better life, one in which they do not feel pressured because of the system and the society they are living in.
