Just another WordPress site

My full name is Adriana Valentina Alfaro Liendo, and I was born in Caracas, Venezuela, but raised in San Antonio de los Altos for seventeen years. Due to sociopolitical economy issues that my country has been going through. In December of 2018 my parents decided to move outside of Venezuela in order to provide a better future for my siblings and myself.

My posts are divided into three main categories, all of which I have been exploring since I moved to the United States. Post my immigration to the United States, I have been forced outside my comfort zone. I have had to navigate an entirely different landscape. I have been discovering that I have a sensitive and vulnerable heart that I do not want to hide anymore. In fact, I can use my intercultural sensitivity as a global citizen not only to connect and empathize with others through listening and respecting their unique opinions, but also to learn from them. This has allowed me to have a broader view of the world.

In addition to the struggles of my country, there is a lot of violence, and when I was back there, I was certain that the only way to fight violence was with more violence. However, in my journey as an immigrant, I learned that there are better ways to combat injustice than to fight solely with violence, and the arts is one of them. I have been using dance, theater, and poetry as a way of resistance to fight against violence, dictatorship, and corruption. Moreover, I have been using the power of the arts as a tool to use my voice for those who cannot use theirs.

Slowly, I have been discovering these three main objectives, but it was Wesleyan and its people that have been giving me a platform to explore, gain experience, and knowledge through classes, clubs, and off-campus opportunities.
